You'll notice in the barter section of your playbook that 1 barter will cover a month's living expenses if your tastes aren't to grand.
Let's take a look at the menu.
Dog Jerky Dog Food Fried Beetles Rat Pie Parasite Pate Hot Sludge Cat Haggis Moonshine
I think you get the picture. Feel free to toss your own out.

Hot Sludge: a liquid meal made of various canned vegetables or fruits, crushed with mortar and pestle, then watered well down and combined with yeast, then fermented in the blazing sun of the dry season. It stretches the nutrients of a single can of food out across several weeks, but generally tastes pretty terrible. Gives you a decent buzz, though!

Products of agriculture (truly difficult): Boiled cactus * Canyon grape raisins Fermented carlessweed Fresh stink gourd Hackberry preserves Horsenettle root mash Rattlerweed carrots - Opium poppies ** - Yucca (makes soap) **
Bounty of the hunt (damn dangerous): Congealed bats' blood Rattler kebabs Roasted prairie devil Steamed scorpions Toasted locusts
Not so safe to eat (best of luck): Fried roach paste *** Thrice-boiled pipecrust broth *** Prickly pears (must be carefully sanded to be safe) *
* Grows wild but dangerous to harvest. ** Not actually food. *** Liable to make you violently ill.
